Motors and Generators for Vehicle Drives

Military personnel are surrounded by electrical systems requiring increasing power in confined spaces. Maneuverability and efficiency translate to agility and reach in every battle. Warfighters need to fight from a position of advantage, and our soft magnetic solutions improve the range and acceleration of existing electrical drives. Carpenter Electrification solutions enable the warfighter to dictate the movement of battle. Naval submarines and warships, ground assault vehicles, and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) are using or exploring electric drives for propulsion.

Our Hiperco® and Hypercore® alloys meet these needs for new system designs and as “drop-in” solutions to power density challenges on legacy platforms. In motor drives our alloys can improve torque up to 15% and efficiency by 2 to 3%. The result is cooler operating temperatures, smaller and lighter systems, improved reliability, and longer machine life.

Military personnel are surrounded by electrical systems requiring increasing power and improved mobility. Functional payloads such as radar, defense, and missile systems on military vehicles have demanding power requirements. Whether for sensing, communication networks, or weapons (including directed energy) every program faces the request for more power, often while conforming to a pre-defined, constrained space. Engineers face holistic design challenges requiring a step function change in power density.

Our Hiperco® and Hypercore® alloys meet these needs for new system designs and as “drop-in” solutions to power density challenges on legacy platforms. Our alloys can improve efficiency by 2 to 3%. For generators and transformers, power density is increased by up to 25%. The results in these critical payload sub-systems include cooler operating temperatures, smaller and lighter systems, improved reliability, and extended machine life.
